a dramatic symphony based on the poetry of Vasyl Stus

  • Director: Volodymyr Kuchynsky
  • Art Design and Costumes: Natalia Shymin
  • Literary Consultant: Nadia Svitlychna
  • Musical consultant: Natalia Polovynka
  • Dramaturg: Julie-Anne Franko

This "dramatic symphony" uses the faces and themes of the ancient Ukrainian legends and archetypes Marko Prokliaty, Mamai and Crazy Halya, as well as the Eastern legend of Mankurt, a child of a nomadic tribe who disengaged from the memory of his race. "Someone once said of Brahms that he kept on writing a single symphony throughout his life, although formally he composed four of them. In a certain sence, Vasyl Stus wrote but a single symphony, very much his own." George Shevelov
